Cloudy Clouds brings to us his newest album, Imprisoned in a Daydream: fourteen tracks demonstrating his skills in satirical and socially aware lyrics, putting his foot well and truly in the door of the UK hip-hop scene. Mix in some self-deprecating humor juxtaposing the serious social commentary and you’ve got yourself one of the most thought-provoking albums to come out of the genre this year.
Watch One Night By Cloudy Clouds below:
Better known as Claudio Elliston, Cloudy Clouds takes his influence from some of hip-hop’s biggest, mould breaking talents, from Eminem and Lupe Fiasco to Sha Stimuli, whilst still keeping that raw, London feel in his music. With each track bringing something new, Cloudy Clouds’ tracks bring a brutal honestly with them, which is masked by commentary and British comedy scattered among the lyrics, hitting harder because they come from a very real place.
Standout features on the album include Your Future Daughter, talking about the UK’s drug laws and British culture, with a memorable melody playing throughout; Wrote You a Love Song, which flips the pervious track’s vibes on their head for a more ballad-y sound about relationships, love and how it affects both parties. Calling Round features intense and emotional lyrics about a terrorist attack from alternative angles, while One Night showcases brilliant trap-style instrumentals with some guest vocals.
