If you’re a fan of good folk music, then you need to know about Reece Sullivan. Preparing to release his third studio album, ‘Gethsemane’, Sullivan is bringing a collection of fantastic acoustic tracks that will tell stories as well as he plays the guitar. A fantastic display of musical and vocal talent, this eight-track album is the result of allowing his creativity to run free. Make sure that you don’t miss ‘Gethsemane’!

Kicking the album off is the brilliant, ‘Highway Diner Plates’. Right away carrying a Bob Dylan feel, it shows Sullivan possessing fantastic guitar ability alongside immense vocal and lyrical talent that sets the tone of the song beautifully. The following track, ‘All the While I Was Away’, the lead single from the album – it shows us more of the brilliant guitar work, while also allowing his vocals to take centre stage. A genuinely fantastic start, this is already a folk album that you need to hear.

After such a good start, we quickly started to worry that perhaps this album peaked too early, that everything we saw is all we were going to get – how wrong we were. Tracks such as ‘If You Know What’s Good for You’, ‘The Olive Tree’ and ‘I’ve Encountered Many Struggles’ all show that the quality in his music is here to stay, showing that he is an incredible musician that can create good music over and over again.

With ‘Gethsemane’ having played through without interruption, it’s easy to say that this is an album that belongs with anyone who loves folk music. Brilliant storytelling aspects with formidable vocals that is underlined by a guitar, it’s a standard of music we don’t often see. Reece Sullivan is an artist who is more than deserving of our attention, and with his third album ‘Gethsemane’ as good as it is, make sure you keep an eye out for the next one!
