Telemann’s music has occupied an important place in Ensemble C4’s repertoire since the Norwegian group was founded in 2015. That sustained connection is the foundation of A Love for Telemann, a new album scheduled for release on LAWO Classics on November 6, 2026.

The recording follows the ensemble’s 2024 album of Händel’s Neun Deutsche Arien and marks its second CD. Across its wider activities, Ensemble C4 performs both early music and contemporary compositions, developing its approach through concerts, collaborations and commissions. The group made its international concert debut in August 2024 with performances in Italy’s Venice and Trentino regions.

For this project, the musicians approach Telemann’s repertoire as a dialogue between past and present rather than solely as historical reconstruction. Their interpretations draw on individual experience and musical curiosity while seeking to preserve the spirit of Baroque performance. The programme’s three chamber works and vocal selections offer different settings in which to explore that balance, from instrumental exchanges to the intimate drama of the cantatas.

The album includes two cantatas from Harmonischer Gottesdienst alongside the Missa brevis, TWV 9:14, with countertenor Daniel Sæther among the featured performers. Recorded in Oslo’s Grorud Church in January 2025, A Love for Telemann will be available on CD and digital platforms under catalogue number LWC1441, presenting a composer closely connected to the ensemble’s artistic identity.
